Thawte has officially announced the raising of their prices for all their SSL certificates. Prices have jumped by an incredible 60%. Despite the competition from other SSL Certificate issuers such as GeoTrust, Thawte (Verisign) has shown that they will not compete in a bidding war, but have done quite the opposite and raised their prices considerably which some consider to be a bold move.
At this time it would appear that Thawte is counting on their brandability and exposure to compensate for any alarms that may occur from such a steep raising in pricing.
